Mustafa Abunofal of Guidehouse presents an overview of natural refrigerants and their role in achieving sustainable cooling in the Cool Up programme’s second Knowledge Sharing session.

In his presentation, he discusses the history and problems associated with synthetic refrigerants. He explains how natural refrigerants, a term used to categorise non-synthetic substances that occur in nature’s biochemical process, can be used in sustainable cooling technologies. Finally, he outlines the characteristics, history, and applications of the following five natural refrigerants: carbon dioxide, ammonia, hydrocarbons, air, and water, and how they can be employed in sustainable cooling technologies.
