OEWG44 – How Can Sustainable Finance be Leveraged to Enhance Access to Cooling?

The Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW), in partnership with SHEETAL Alliance, is pleased to invite you to a side-event at the 44th Meeting of the Open-ended Working Group (OEWG) of the Parties to the Montreal Protocol, ‘How can Sustainable Finance be Leveraged to Enhance Access to Cooling?‘ on 11 July 2022, 1300-1500 hrs at United Nations Conference Centre, United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, Rajdamnern Nok Avenue, Bangkok.

As the world translates climate commitments into action, the cooling sector is offering a big mitigation opportunity with its large environmental footprint. Equally, in the global south, with low access to cooling, providing thermal comfort and augmenting cooling infrastructure is critical to development. National Cooling Action Plans, therefore, provide a much-needed impetus in the direction of making cooling accessible to all.

Finance is an enabler to bridge the action gap. Increasing access to cooling at scale will require investment in several areas. A combination of strategies will have to be formulated to get the right quantum of financing. What, how and how much finance will be required for sustainable cooling access in India and other developing countries is thus an important question to grapple with.

This side-event at OEWG44 affords us all an opportunity to engage with international experts and government representatives to delve into aspects of sustainable finance, and how it can be made available for cooling to meet the targets laid out in national cooling action plans.
