Background
UNEP and COP30's Beat the Heat implementation drive and Google are hosting an interactive webinar to help cities turn hyper-local heat data into practical cooling strategies.
Several Beat the Heat cities now have access to Google's Tree Canopy and Roof-Level Albedo datasets, which can support more informed decisions on urban heat resilience. Building on the introductory session held during the Global Cooling Pledge Assembly in Singapore, this masterclass will focus on how cities can use these tools to assess cooling interventions, inform local policies and prioritise action.
Through live demonstrations, real-world examples and an interactive discussion with Google's Heat Resilience team, participants will explore how to apply the data to their own urban contexts.
The webinar is open to all Beat the Heat cities and partners.
Objectives
Demonstrate how to use Google's hyper-local datasets to model and compare urban cooling strategies.
Showcase practical applications of heat data in city planning and local climate policymaking.
Facilitate peer learning among cities by sharing practical experiences, challenges and lessons in applying heat data to local planning and cooling interventions, with direct input from Google's Heat Resilience team.
