Background

Innovative solutions for sustainable cooling are advancing rapidly, offering significant opportunities to reduce emissions, improve efficiency, and expand access across space cooling, cold chains, and industrial applications. From 2019 to 2024, the TechEmerge Sustainable Cooling Innovation programme, implemented by the International Finance Corporation (IFC), has played a central role in accelerating this progress by testing and validating climate-smart cooling technologies across Latin America, Africa, and Asia. Through more than 100 pilot projects, TechEmerge generated robust evidence on technology performance, costs, business models, and real-world conditions that enable innovations to move beyond demonstration toward scale. As TechEmerge transitions into a public good, its evidence, tools, and innovation pipeline are now being made openly accessible to governments, companies, and financiers to support wider uptake and replication.

Building on this foundation, the UNEP Cool Coalition is advancing implementation of sustainable cooling through complementary initiatives that help translate innovation into action. The Enabling Pledge Implementation for Cooling (EPIC) Facility supports Global Cooling Pledge signatories with targeted technical assistance and pilot deployments to address policy, finance, and delivery gaps.

In parallel, the Online Policy Toolkit for Sustainable Cooling, produced jointly with the Ozone Secretariat, provides practical guidance and resources to help governments apply evidence and innovation in policy design and implementation.

This webinar explores how implementation support and policy tools can help scale proven cooling innovations and accelerate progress toward sustainable cooling worldwide.
